San Antonio Symphony: Fiesta Pops

Troy led the San Antonio Symphony’s annual Fiesta Pops concerts on April 20 & 21 at the Majestic Theatre, with guests Patsy Torres, the Guadalupe Dance Company, and Mariachi Campanas de América.

[Torres] taught conductor Troy Peters at one point how to dress for the citywide party. (“I don’t understand Fiesta one bit,” he protested in fun. “I am from Vermont.”)

“Triple Doubles” CD Review

Triple Doubles CD coverNovember 17, 2011

Jim Lowe of the Rutland Herald has published his review of Triple Doubles, the recent CD on which Troy conducts the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in the world premier recording of Daron Hagen’s Masquerade, with soloists Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson:

Laredo’s brilliant lyricism combined with Robinson’s rich lyricism make their lines sing but their intimacy gives their performance truly compelling power. And the VSO, conducted by Peters, former music director of the Vermont Youth Orchestra, manages this colorful score with real flair.

Mike Greenberg of Incident Light has reviewed the YOSA Philharmonic’s November 7 concert with Edgar Meyer:

In the Dvorak symphony, the YOSA Philharmonic’s strings sounded notably stronger and smoother than they were a year ago. Mr. Peters maintained crisp pacing and good ensemble precision, even in the intricate scherzo.

February 25, 2011

Just hours before the only rehearsal, Troy stepped in for the ailing Ken-David Masur to lead the San Antonio Symphony’s February 2011 pops concerts, Simply Sinatra with Steve Lippia. Read about it in San Antonio Symphony CEO Jack Fishman’s blog:

Troy has handled [...] crisis conducting assignments with a steady hand, impressive musicality and tons of style. I’m glad he is conducting a Symphony POPS concert next season that isn’t an emergency!

November 8, 2010

Troy’s recent concert with the YOSA Philharmonic, featuring guest soloists Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson, was reviewed by San Antonio critic Mike Greenberg:

His very precise but expressive stick held the orchestra nicely together through the daunting rhythmic intricacies of ‘Sensemaya.’ His pacing and his lyrical line in the Beethoven Seventh were exemplary.

Stravinsky on Short Notice

November 4, 2010

Substituting for an ailing Tito Muñoz, Troy rehearsed the San Antonio Symphony in Stravinsky’s daunting Symphony in C after less than an hour with the score, as well as the Ravel Left Hand Concerto and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, both featuring pianist Ryo Yanagitani. San Antonio Symphony CEO Jack Fishman blogged about the rehearsals:

Maestro Peters stepped in and rehearsed the difficult and rarely performed Stravinsky Symphony in C, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand. The orchestra had high praise for Maestro Peters’ work.
